Involvement with Pax Christi

Joseph Camilleri has had a long association with Pax Christi, the International Christian Peace Movement. He first encountered the organisation when studying for his PhD at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He soon became Secretary of Pax Christi in England.

On his return to Melbourne he helped to establish Pax Christi in Australia, which unlike its Catholic origins in Europe, has operated as a broadly based Christian movement, also open to people of other and philosophical persuasions.

Pax Christi in Australia has been an important catalyst in advocacy and public discourse on a range of issues, including human rights, self-determination, peace and war, and Australia's relations with Asia.
