How will the course be conducted?
Method

The course will include:

  • Lectures

  • Workshop Discussions

  • Question and answer sessions

  • Simulation Exercise

  • Use of Audio-Visual materials

  • Interviews with guests

  • Debates

  • Field work (e.g. surveys)

Participants will be issued with extensive reading materials, including a resource workbook, and be given a number of small assignments.

Prior to the 5.45pm start participants will be encouraged to come early from 5.15pm onwards for coffee, nibbles and conversation.  The half hour can also be used for preparation of workshop discussion and assignments.  In addition, each session will have a 20-30 minute break at which point beverages and food will be served.  This break will also allow for informal discussion.

Participants should apply only if they have a high degree of commitment to the course. They are expected to:

  • Attend ALL TEN SESSIONS
  • Be present for the full duration of each session
  • Do the necessary reading and other preparation for each session
  • Complete a number of short assignments

 

Principal lecturer and course coordinator

Joseph Camilleri    (Professor of International Relations and Director of the Centre for Dialogue, La Trobe University)

Author of numerous books, including The End of Sovereignty? (1992), States, Markets and Civil Society in Asia Pacific (2000) and Regionalism in the New Asia-Pacific Order (2003).  He edited Religion and Culture in Asia Pacific: Violence or Healing? (2001) and co-edited Democratising Global Governance (2002).

Assisting him will be Larry Marshall (Project Coordinator, Centre for Dialogue, La Trobe University) and Craig Woolley (Manager, Centre for Dialogue, La Trobe University).

Guest academics and practitioners will also contribute to the course.
