The situation in Iraq
The people of Iraq have suffered greatly over the last twenty years. A succession of wars,
sanctions and gross human rights violations have contributed to this. The Saddam
Hussein regime carries much of the responsibility for this, but so does the
international community. US administrations, in particular, have pursued
policies highly damaging to the social, economic and cultural well-being of the
people of Iraq.
Materials in this page, some written by Joseph Camilleri but many derived from
other sources, attempt to come to terms with the seriousness of the situation
not only for Iraq, but for the Middle East and the international community as a
whole.
