Aims

AISA is an independent research organisation and think-tank, focusing on Africa in its research, publications and resource library. Its aim is to become the independent authoritative centre of excellence for the production of knowledge on Africa and to promote awareness as well as the importance of unity, peace, prosperity and democracy on the African continent.

Activities

AISA's core functions are to provide research and policy development; to conduct research and embark on training programmes; and to establish, participate in and maintain networks for peace, development and prosperity on the African continent. This is expressed through three main divisions: Research and Development; Publications and Communications; and Library and Documentation Services.

Publications and other Resources

The website contains a free online version of Africa at a Glance which comprises data on Africa, its regions and countries, arranged in easy-to-use tables and illustrated with maps and graphs and Africa A-Z which comprises 393 pages covering each of Africa's 53 independent countries and four non-independent territories, with introductory chapters on the geography, population, cultures, religions, history, political change, economic issues and regional groupings. Also included on the website is a large amount of electronic monographs available in HTML format.
