The Academic Council on the United Nations System (ACUNS)

http://www.acuns.wlu.ca

Aims

ACUNS is an international association of scholars, teachers, practitioners, and others who are active in the work and study of the United Nations system and international organizations in general. A principal goal of ACUNS is to strengthen the study of international organizations as they increase in number, activity, and complexity and to create strong ties between the academic community and officials and diplomats within the UN system and other international organizations.

Activities

ACUNS has a number of ongoing projects, including research and policy workshops, an annual meeting which focuses on UN and international issues, a two-week summer workshop for younger scholars and practitioners organized in cooperation with the American Society for International Law (ASIL), and a dissertation awards program. The 900-member organization has also created an Internet site and co-sponsors an e-mail list with the International Organization section of the International Studies Association (ISA).

Publications and other Resources

The website includes reports and papers that are published and distributed by ACUNS as part of its program to expand the understanding of the problems of international cooperation and the role of international institutions. Free full-text versions of some of these reports are available electronically on the website as PDF files. It also includes a growing collection of documents that reflect the interests of its members including UN Documents, Treaties, Covenants and Conventions, Inter-Governmental & Governmental Documents, Miscellaneous Documents & Reports and ACUNS News Chronology available electronically on the website as Adobe Acrobat files. The website also includes an extensive and well organised links page organised into fifteen categories.
