http://www.africacenter.org

Aims

The ACSS is one of five United States Department of Defense (DoD) regional centers for security studies, and one of the three that are components of the National Defense University (NDU). The Africa Center also endeavours to promote the development of long-term, mutually beneficial security relations between the U.S. and African countries by open and frank consultations and seminars.

Activities

The ACSS supports the efforts of the DoD and other U.S. agencies to promote democracy and assist African nations in improving their security by promoting good governance, security sector professionalism, and democratic civil-military relations. The AISA organises two-week 'Senior Leader' seminars, which are conducted at rotating sites in Africa and involve approximately 130 participants from the highest levels of military and civilian leadership throughout Africa. The AISA also host 'Sub-Regional' and 'Topical' seminars. In addition to seminars, the Africa Center organises other events for professionals at the Africa Center's Washington DC headquarters and include roundtable discussions, briefings, and other meetings.

Publications and other Resources

The website is available in English and French and includes African news updates, a Media Center and an African Policy Center with news stories and relevant links to policy debate.
